The ASX 200 has clawed back some of its early losses to be down 0.4% heading into the afternoon session.

At one stage it had fallen around 0.7% after a weak lead from Wall Street and soft Chinese manufacturing data.

Real estate is the best performing sector led by the likes of Lend Lease (+2.9%) and Goodman Group (+0.8%).
